Ras Nungwi This beach hotel aspires towards fulfilling a beach haven idyll, being both relaxed and uncomplicated while providing a conscientious service. Rooms are simply but comfortably designed, and recent renovations have added immaculate, newly tiled bathrooms and furniture. There is a choice of three types of room distinguished as lodge or ?garden? rooms towards the back of the hotel, and deluxe or super-deluxe beach chalets with sea views.
The terraced lodge rooms are all self contained and each has their own veranda, and of these rooms 32 and 33 actually have excellent views of the sea and a huge shared veranda, with an adjoining door that make these an excellent choice for families, or a couple of couples. The deluxe and super deluxe chalets are all detached or semi-detached, and all have a private balcony and views across the bay and a choice of air conditioning or a fan. The distinction between the two is Super Deluxe are newer, larger, and afford even greater privacy as they are situated on the far western side of the hotel. Fitted mosquito nets in all rooms give a soft and romantic feel, and the atmosphere and aspect make this a popular choice for honeymooning couples. The hotel spreads out across floral and sandy garden paths on a beautiful stretch of unspoilt and breathtaking beach. A spacious thatch restaurant and bar provide 180 degree views of the horizon beneath a staggeringly impressive makuti thatch, and numerous little 'hide-away' areas create atmospheric areas for guests to relax and enjoy their surroundings with a semblance of privacy and peace. Local chefs focus on making the most of fresh local spice and produce, and provide a fine daily menu that relies heavily on abundant fruit and seafood. A fantastic new swimming pool has been built at the centre of the garden, raised on an elegant platform in easy reach of the bar, with great views of the sea. The hotel has recently been superbly renovated throughout, and work has included a games area with a table tennis and pool table, and even a cunningly disguised television room. Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is ideally located for diving the north east coast and Mnemba atoll, and the popular dive centre provides equipment and guides for all abilities. Deep-sea fishing, wind-surfing, and dhow cruises are all equally available, and there is a table tennis table and beach volleyball net for action enthusiasts.

A truly fantastic hotel; without doubt one of the very best on the entire African coast. The beach here is the best on Zanzibar and unlike much of the east coast, is free of hawkers and general hastlers. Nungwi village just down the coast is a great place to go out and have a few drinks or a bite of lunch - something which so many of the Zanzibar hotels cant offer. The managers here, Chris and Heather are great fun and run what is a very profefessional little hotel.
